Welcome to the memorial page for

Jim Overton

September 16, 1934 ~ October 13, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Jim B. Overton, “Bama”, 83, died Friday, October 13, 2017 at his home. He was born September 16, 1934, Natural Bridge, AL; the youngest son of Martha Francis Overton Harbin.

In his youth, he hoed, plowed, picked cotton and set-block at the sawmill. In his late teens, he moved to Ohio, hence the nick-names “Bama” and “Bammy” stuck throughout his life. He had worked at Whirlpool and was a past owner of the former Billiard-Bowl, Blondy’s Café and Downtown Lounge. Jim was founder/owner of Ohio Siding & Gutter Co., until his retirement.

He was a Golden life member of the F.O.E. Aerie 490. Jim enjoyed get-togethers with family and friends, trips to Vegas, sport-betting, playing poker and cards, feeding and watching birds and critters. When young and able, he liked to bowl, golf, play pool, fish and hunt. In retirement, he walked daily and joined the Burger King guys for coffee and catch-up. He also met his “best buddies” weekly for lunch and sports reviews.

Jim is survived by his wife to 57 years, Patricia A. (Roach) Overton, his dog, his dearest and very special nieces and nephews, Wilma Townsend, Linda Lepard and “Ike” McKenzie, Norman Overton, John Morris, Pamela Morris, Nancy & Allen Ross, Kelly Roach and many great and great-great nieces and nephews; in-laws Phyllis Morris, David & Beverly Roach; half-sister Varanda Burrell; step-sister Billie Ruth Harbin; sisters-in-laws Janette Harbin & Tammie Overton, several cousins and extended families. A life-time of “Best” and very “Special” friends and acquaintances too numerous to list. You know who you were and how Jim truly cared and felt about each of you. Hope you realize the memories your friendships, love, laughter, and times-shared added pleasure to his life.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother, step-father Burton Harbin, father John Berry, siblings J.C. Overton, Louise Chambless, John “Jr.” Overton; and his “dearest” sister-in-law, Ruth Overton-loved as a mother; nephew Earl “Ray” Townsend; in-laws Ed & Eleanor “Mom” Roach; step-brothers Neal & Jimmy Harbin; grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Heartfelt gratitude and thank you to Dr. Daniel Berry and staff from NOMS, Bellevue Hospital Rehab Service & Firelands Rehabilitation Center for the care and kindness shown to Jim.

As he wished, cremation has taken place and arrangements entrusted to Foos Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 504 E. McPherson Hwy, Clyde, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fish & Loaves, 203 Maple Street, Bellevue, OH 44811 or Back to the Wild, 4504 Bardshar Road, Castalia, OH 44824.

If by chance, you would like to remember me, please do it “with a Kind Word” to one who needs you. Scatter my ashes to the wind, so they will help the flowers grow. Please bury my faults, my weaknesses, and all prejudices against my fellow man. Give me sins to the devil. Give my soul to God. If you do these things, I have asked, “I will live forever”.
