Former Funeral Director / Embalmer
April 2, 1940 - February 3, 2023
Gerald was born April 2, 1940, in Bellevue the son of Ralph E. and Marjorie M. (Simmons) Foos. Gerry was a 1958 graduate of Bellevue High School. He attended Heidelberg College and went on to complete his education at the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He then returned to his hometown to join his father in the family business, Foos & Son Funeral Home.
He married his high school sweetheart Gail Zeigler on June 18, 1960, at Immaculate Conception Church and together they grew their business which has served the Bellevue-Clyde communities for 4 generations. Throughout his life he has been involved in many community and civic organizations in Bellevue. Gerry co-chaired the Rotary Commons Senior Housing Project, chaired the United in Spirit-Renewed in Purpose Capital Campaign at Immaculate Conception Church, and assisted with the BAF Stadium Project.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and a Charter Member of The Rotary Club of Bellevue, where he was past president and received the Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a life member of Eagles Aerie 490, Elks Lodge #1013, the former Bellevue Moose Lodge, Knights of Columbus, and the Ohio Funeral Directors Association.
Gerry was honored by the Ohio Funeral Directors Association for 50 years of service in 2014; received the Founders Award and Citizen of the Year from the Bellevue Area Chamber of Commerce; was a Distinguished Graduate of Immaculate Conception School; and was most recently selected for induction into the Bellevue High School Halls of Excellence.
Gerry lived life to the fullest. He was — even though he suffered many a heartbreak — an avid Cleveland Browns fan and Cleveland Indians fan. He also rooted for the Hillsdale College Chargers, Bellevue Redmen Football, and Huron Tiger Football. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and made many memories with his grandsons.
He is survived by his wife, Gail; children: Lisa (Russ) Critelli of Huron, Ralph K. Foos of Huron, Brian E. (Lisa ) Foos of Bellevue; grandchildren: Gerald “J.J.” (Kelly) Foos, David Foos, Miles (Kristen) Foos, Ian Foos, Alec (Jaycie) Foos, Morgan Critelli, Lucas Critelli, Hannah (Brandon) Malson, Logan Foos and Shannon Foos; great grandchildren: Aubrey, Landry, Avery, Oliver, Bowen, and Delilah; and sisters, Helen (Gene) Milkie of Sandusky, Edith Milkie of Avon Lake, Martha Dise of Bellevue, Nancy (Lee) Clark of Bellevue, and Carol (Greg) Zimmerman of Bellevue; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Leslie Foos, and grandson, Chad Critelli, brother-in-laws Donald Shaver, James Dise and Duane “Butch” Milkie.
Funeral Director / Embalmer
Brian has lived in Bellevue his entire life. Brian lived above the funeral home for 30 years of his life, and loved being near his dad (Jerry) and grandfather (Ralph) as they served Bellevue families as funeral directors. As Brian got older, he was given small jobs around the funeral home such as yardwork, cleaning facilities and cleaning cars. His father and grandfather were sticklers in every aspect of the business, and it became clear to Brian that funeral directing was not just a job for his family, but a calling.
Brian knew, even during his time at Immaculate Conception Schools, that he would soon follow in the footsteps of his grandfather and father. Upon graduation from Bellevue Senior High School in 1981, Brian attended Xavier University in Cincinnati, where he earned a Bachelors of Science in Mortuary Science. He also earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1984. Brian was then able to return home and begin his career, serving the Bellevue Community just as his family has always hoped to do.
Brian married his high school sweetheart, Lisa (Flicker) Foos.
Lisa was raised in Bellevue, the daughter of Al and Kitty (Lepley) Flicker. She lived on a farm south of town where she spent most of her time training and showing Appaloosa horses. She met Brian at Bellevue High School and were married in 1982. Lisa works for Bellevue City Schools as an Administrative Assistant during the day, and spends her nights creating custom videos for families.
Lisa began experimenting with the idea of creating funeral videos in 1984, but unfortunately the technology at that time did not allow for the quick turnaround needed to create a quality video in time for each service. As computer technology evolved, this afforded the opportunity to create videos that remind family and friends of the happy memories a family member brought them while still meeting necessary deadlines. It takes Lisa about five hours to create each memorial video. Lisa enhances each slide with graphics, sayings, and animations so that each video is as unique as the individual it is done in remembrance of.
Brian and Lisa have five sons: JJ, Dave, Miles, Ian, and Alec. She can throw a pretty mean football pass and good luck hitting her fastball! She has three daughters in law: Kelly, Kristen, and Jaycie. She also has four grandchildren: Aubrey, Landry, Avery and Oliver. Lisa is very happy to have some girls in the family, “After all, I was outnumbered!”.
“Our philosophy is that every family we serve is entitled to remember and celebrate their loved one in their own unique way. We make suggestions or give ideas, listen to the survivors, and make their wishes happen. We have made sure that we stay on the cutting edge of cultural changes occurring in our society. Our unique new facilities, in house video production and specialized printed goods are just a few things that make us stand apart. We are involved in many groups, clubs and projects in the communities we serve. We believe in community service and it is important to give back to our communities.” - Brian & Lisa Foos

Funeral Director / Embalmer
Gerald (JJ) grew up in Bellevue and graduated from Bellevue Senior High School in 2002. JJ attended Florida Gulf Coast University in Estero Florida, and graduated from The Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 2006 with an Associates Degree in Applied Science and a Bachelor’s Degree in Mortuary Science. JJ is a licensed funeral director and embalmer, serving families in both Bellevue and Clyde. He is also responsible for managing daily operations at Northern Ohio Monument, where he is able to design and build monuments for families, allowing them to provide a creative touch on their loved one’s gravestones.
JJ is a member of Immaculate Conception Church, The Elks, The Eagles, Bellevue Area Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Bellevue Recreation Center Board. He is also an avid football fan, and enjoys spending the fall as a Varsity Football Coach for the Bellevue Redmen.
JJ is married to Kelly (Beamer) Foos, and they have one daughter, Aubrey, and one son, Landry. Kelly manages Forget-Me-Not Flowers and Gifts, where she designs floral arrangements and creates a unique space to shop in Bellevue. Aubrey will be going into third grade at Immaculate Conception Schools, and Landry will be heading to preschool!
“Being in a family business is very special. The ability to follow in the footsteps of my great grandfather, my grandfather, my father, and being able to work with my brothers is an opportunity that I do not take for granted. Because we can bounce ideas off of one another, we are able to plan meaningful and unique services that best meet the needs of the families we serve. None of this feels like a job for me. It’s just what we do as a family.” - JJ Foos

Funeral Director / Embalmer
Edward (Miles) was born in Bellevue in 1993. Miles grew up a middle child, having two older brothers and two younger brothers. Because of this, he had a very active childhood, spending most of his time playing backyard football, wiffleball, and basketball, all across the street from the Funeral Home.
Miles attended Bellevue High School, and was active in football, track, and key club. He graduated from Bellevue High School in 2012. Like his family before him, Miles felt called to funeral service, and began to pursue that dream following high school. He attended Lansing Community College and Owens Community College before ultimately earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Mortuary Science from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. Miles is a licensed funeral director and embalmer, serving families in both Bellevue and Clyde. He has many roles at the funeral home, but primarily serves as the lead director at the Clyde funeral home.
Miles lives in Clyde, and is a member of the Clyde Moose, VFW, Eagles, and Lions Club. He is also a graduate of the Sandusky County Leadership Program, serves on the Sandco Industries Board of Directors, and is also on the Board at Firelands Federal Credit Union.
Miles is married to Kristen (Wooten) Foos, and they have one daughter, Avery, and one son, Oliver. Kristen is an occupational therapist, helping patients improve quality of life by using everyday movements to rehabilitate or maintain motor skills. Avery is three years old, loves tagging along with her dad to work and will tell you she is the “real boss” at the funeral home. Oliver is the youngest of the bunch, at 5 months old!
“I’m very grateful to serve families that share the place I call home. The fact that I am able to follow in the footsteps of my great grandfather, grandfather, and father and work every day with my brothers is very special. I hope that the family atmosphere we have created gives families in Bellevue and Clyde a space that they feel welcome, and that they know we strive to provide them with the best services to honor their own loved ones.” - Miles Foos

Apprentice
Alec grew up in Bellevue as well, the youngest of the Foos boys. This provided him with the unique opportunity to watch his grandfather, father, and brothers serve as funeral directors. Like the rest of his family, Alec was often in the funeral home as a boy, and this opportunity reinforced his desire to join the family business.
Alec attended Bellevue High School, and was actively involved in many extracurricular activities, such as key club, track and field, and football. Alec’s favorite was football, and he was fortunate enough to earn a full-scholarship to play for Hillsdale College Football. During his time as a Charger, Alec earned a Bachelors of Arts in Financial Management, which he is now able to use to help run day to day operations at the Funeral Home.
Alec graduated from Wayne State University’s Mortuary Science program. Alec will join his brothers as a fully licensed funeral director and embalmer following his apprenticeship.
Alec is married to Jaycie (Burger) Foos. Jaycie is a teacher at Tiffin Columbian High School, where she is also the head girl’s basketball coach. Alec and Jaycie welcomed their first child, Ila Mary Foos, in February 2024. They also have a chocolate lab named Whiskey who prefers to spend most of his time with Millie and Marley (see below).
“I’m happy to have the opportunity to follow in my family’s footsteps. I’m very excited to learn from my dad and my brothers, and I know that I’m lucky to learn from people that have already spent so much time with the families we serve. I feel as if I’ve learned so much during my apprenticeship, and am looking forward to finishing school and officially joining the funeral directing profession.” - Alec Foos

Therapy Dogs
Millie - Hello! My name is Miss Millie. I am a Gordon Setter, and I joined Brian and Lisa’s family in August of 2017. Lisa was having some empty nest issues, and I’m glad that I was able to help her through those difficult times. My parents decided that I would be a great comfort to families that have suffered loss. I began taking classes at Canine Bliss in Fremont. She was a great trainer! After passing my classes I took the American Kennel Club Good Citizen Test in April of 2018, which I also passed. I then received my official certification as a therapy dog. I’ve been working as a Therapy Dog for almost five years now, and I love being around people. If you come to the funeral home be sure to ask about me, I’d love to visit with you and your family! Sometimes words don’t give much comfort, and I am able to help when words fail.
When I’m not at the funeral home, I am at home with Brian and Lisa. I have a new sister, her name is Marley. She’s working on following in my footsteps and becoming a therapy dog, too! I like to play with Marley and our friend Whiskey, but sometimes they have too much energy for me, so I relax with my parents while they play. I also like to walk with Lisa, and sit with Brian on the porch. - Millie Foos
Marley - Hi, everyone! My name is Marley, and I’m the newest therapy dog at Foos Funeral homes! Technically I’m still in training, but one day I’ll get there. Just like Millie, I attended Canine Bliss and passed all my classes. I also passed the American Kennel Club Good Citizen Test, so that means I just have to get my official certification and I’ll join my older sister. Right now I visit the funeral home with my mom, Lisa, and she helps me practice getting to know everyone with the best manners. If you see me, please say hi!
When I’m not at the funeral home I love to play with my friend Whiskey. We run around the yard, play fetch, and bug my sister Millie. I also like to go on walks with Lisa, and I even help Brian garden! I’m not sure how much he likes that…anyway, I really enjoy being at the Funeral Home and I can’t wait to spend more time with you and your family! - Marley Foos
