Zachary Smith, 31, of Bellevue passed away Monday, January 5, 2026 at The Bellevue Hospital. He was born August 21, 1994 in Sandusky the son of Philip and Stacy (Ommert) Smith.
Following his high school graduation, Zach proudly served in the United States Army National Guard. A devoted veteran, he recently founded the non-profit organization, "Phoenix Action." This organization aims to assist disabled veterans by connecting them with qualified contractors for necessary home repairs, funded through donations and government aid.
In his personal life, Zach was a loving father to his son, Henry. He had a passion for physical fitness, enjoying weightlifting and practicing Ju-Jitsu. He was also a music enthusiast, with a particular fondness for Johnny Cash. Above all, Zach cherished time spent with his family, which often included playing video games with his brother-in-laws or spending time with his sisters and son at the pool.
Zach is survived by his son, Henry Leo Smith of Findlay; mother, Stacy Smith of Bellevue; sisters: Micaela (Justin Everhardt) Smith of Bellevue and Annalise (Gabriel) Harner of Bellevue; grandmothers, Lillian Smith of Sandusky and Beverly Ommert of Bellevue; aunts, Kerry (Larry) Phillips of Wooster, Jodie (Dana) Brown of Port Clinton, and Jenny Smith of Sandusky; and numerous cousins.
He is preceded in death by his father, Philip Smith; paternal grandfather and best friend, Donnie Joe Smith; maternal grandparents, Robert and Janice Ommert; special cousin, Sandy Grose; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Friends will be received on Saturday, January 10, 2026 from 11 a.m. until a Celebration of Zach’s life begins at 1 p.m. at Bellevue Alliance Church, 1001 Monroe Street, Bellevue. Military Honors will follow the Celebration.
Memorials may be made to the family for an education fund to be established to benefit Zach’s son, Henry.
