William Strong, age 81 of Clyde, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2022, at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky. William was born June 2, 1941, in Elyria, OH, the son of the late Elwyn and Mabel (Jones) Strong.
William proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was very active in the Clyde community having coached the Clyde High School soccer, track, and girls’ basketball teams. He was a past President of Buckeye Boys State and a member of the Boys State Hall of Fame. He was a 32nd degree Freemason and member of the American Legion Post 83, Clyde Eagles, Clyde Moose, and Clyde VFW.
William is survived by his son, William Strong, Jr, of Sandusky; daughters: Janette (James) Andrus of Alexandria, LA, and Nanette (Clarence) Peters of Sandusky; grandchildren: Katie, Brannon, Buddy, Kyle, Janel, and Zeb; 5 great-grandchildren; and companion, Alice Auxter of Clyde.
In addition to his parents, William is preceded in death by his wife, Karen (Smith) Strong; and sister, Margaret Dencer.
Friends will be received Monday, July 25, 2022, from 1-4 & 5-7:30pm at Foos Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 504 E McPherson Hwy, Clyde, OH 43410. A memorial service will be held following visitation at 7:30pm at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Legion Buckeye Boys State.
