William Oddo Obituary

William “Bill” Oddo, 88 of Bellevue passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at The Bellevue Hospital.  He was born October 30, 1931 in Bellevue the son of the late Charles and Mary Grace (Battista) Oddo. 

Bill was a 1950 graduate of Bellevue High School. Following graduation, he served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.  Bill was a barber for 48 years and recognized as the “Bellevue Historian”. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, former Athletic Director of ICC Catholic Youth Organization and established the CYO Athletic Boosters, recipient of Toledo  Diocese “For God and Youth” award; spearheaded the formation of the Bellevue Redmen Boosters; selected to the Huron County Public Defender Board, member of Bellevue Recreation Board and was on the committee for the construction of the Community Center; co-founder of the Bellevue Heritage Museum where he served as president, and the former Club Amer-Ital. Bill was inducted into the Bellevue Halls of Excellence in 2000. 

Bill was a lifelong fan of Redmen sports.  He authored the history of Bellevue basketball and “100 year History of Bellevue Football 1897-1997”. His research benefitted many stories by local and national newspapers.  Bill organized hundreds of articles into 6 books on local history, the sixth book “A Pictoral History of Bellevue” with sales benefitting the restoration of the Tremont House.  Bill lived his life with his father’s words guiding him, “You can’t always take and not give anything back.  You’ve got to give back to the community”.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly (Perry) Oddo who he married November 9, 1957 in Immaculate Conception Church; sons Mike (Joyce) Oddo, Strongsville, OH; Rocky (Dana) Oddo, Gurnee, IL; Curt (Kelli) Oddo, Sandusky, OH; John Oddo, North Royalton, OH; daughters Teresa (Scotty) Oddo-Roberts, Oil City, PA; Julie (Todd) Brown, Bellevue, OH; Patty (Chad Highlander) Oddo; Sandusky, OH; grandchildren Travis, Derek, & Halle Brown; Grace Oddo; Holden, Christopher & Avery Oddo; Tiffany, Kristen, and Brad Oddo; Macie, Maggie, & Sam Oddo; A.J. & Anna Oddo; great-grandchildren Giana & Gunner Brown; brother Richard (Sherry) Oddo, Bellevue, OH.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Rosemarie Oddo and brothers Carl, Jim, Chuck, and Sam Oddo.

A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 239 E. Center St., Bellevue, Ohio 44811.  Burial with Military honors will follow at Bellevue Catholic Cemetery.  Masks and social distancing will be required.

Memorials may be made to The Bellevue Public Library or The Tremont House Restoration Project in care of The Bellevue Historical Society.
