Werner F. Martin, 91, of Bellevue passed away in his home on Thursday, December 5, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was born on September 11, 1928. He was the son of John and Rufina (Ruffing) Martin.
Werner, better known as Wernie, worked as a barber in Bellevue for many years. When approached by George Woodard, who was starting his photography business, Wernie transitioned and finished his career with Woodard Photographic. He was very proud of his tenure and the relationships that developed over the years. He was a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Church, The Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent DePaul Society, the Elks, and VFW Post 1238. Wernie proudly served our country in the US Army.
He married the love of his life, Mary Ann (Lavey) Martin, in Toledo, Ohio at the Holy Rosary Cathedral on September 1, 1952. She preceded him to heaven in 2010.
Wernie was a family man, a husband, a father and a great friend. He was hard-working and loyal, enjoyed woodworking, ping pong and billiards, but had a passion for golf. Wernie is survived by his daughter, Patricia Bickhart; sons: James (Dee Ann) Martin of Bartlett, TN, Thomas (Gaye) Martin of Maumee, and Michael Martin of Bellevue; grandchildren Kyle (Adrienne) Bickhart of Columbus, Megan (John) Hernandez of Cygnet, OH, Melissa ( Stewart)Vetter of Bellevue, Chad Martin of Bartlett TN, Caitlin Martin (Carson) Oostra of Toledo, Lindy Martin (Christian) Colleta of Columbus; great grandchildren, Johnnie Hernandez, Xavier Hernandez, Zachary Vetter, and Evan Vetter; and Wernie’s sister Carolyn (Jim) Specht of Roanoke, VA.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, David Martin; and brothers, Robert C. Martin, John A. Martin, Eugene P. Martin, and sister Mary Young.
Friends will be received on Friday, December 13,2019 from 5-8 p.m. at Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue. A funeral Mass will begin on Saturday, December 14, at 11:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church, 231 E. Center St, Bellevue Ohio, with the family receiving guests at 10:00 am.
