Walter Sanders Jr., 80, of Bellevue passed away December 17, 2020 at The Bellevue Hospital. He was born January 29, 1940 in Bellevue the son of Walter and Margaret (Legat) Sanders Sr.
Walter worked for the railroad until his retirement in 1995. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran serving from 1960-1964. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, NARVE, Eagles Aerie 490, VFW Post 1238, American Legion Post 46, and the United States Marine Corps League. He enjoyed motorcycles and golfing. A kid at heart, he cherished his time with his grandchildren and at many family gatherings he was off with children playing games. He enjoyed traveling, especially with his family and traveled to 46 of the lower 48 states. He served as the “glue” to much of the Sanders family, and could always be seen checking on his children whenever he returned to town from a trip to let them know he was home with a simple little honk as he drove by.
He is survived by his wife, Florence (Briehl), whom he married September 16, 1963 in Bellevue; Two sons, Walter (Terri) Sanders III of Bellevue and Timothy (Jennifer) Sanders of Bellevue; Two daughters, Kathleen (Steve) Staley of Bellevue and Patricia (Scott) Steinmetz of Bellevue; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Candy) Sanders of Vermilion; and sisters, Mary Lou Sams of Bellevue and Barbara (Danny) Reilly of Bellevue; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Private funeral services will be observed. Foos & Foos Funeral Service, Bellevue is in care of arrangements. Burial will be in Bellevue Catholic Cemetery.
