Velma Cox, 93, of Flat Rock passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Heritage Village in Clyde. Velma was born December 31, 1927 in Maple Grove, Ohio the daughter of George and Lela (Bickle) Swartz.
Velma married Archie Cox on April 25, 1950 at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. She was a member Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Flat Rock and was very involved in the church groups over the years. Known by many as “Skeet”, she enjoyed crocheting, doing word search and taking walks. She was a mother to many, and always started her day with a cup of tea a habit she passed along to her grandchildren.
She is survived by her two children: Patricia (Edward) Borer of Grand Rapids, Ohio and Steven Cox of Flat Rock; 5 grandchildren: Ryan Borer of Swanton, Jason (Andrea) Borer of Lewis Center, Kyle (Jaclyn) Borer of Whitehouse, Lindsay (Christopher) Daniel of Green Springs, and Shawn (Jacqueline) Borer of Coldwater; 12 great grandchildren with one expected in July; a brother, Roy Swartz of Clyde; and three sisters: Phyllis Snezek of Collins, Ohio, Ladonna Gillis of New Hampshire, and Nancy Vanderpool of Fostoria.
Velma is preceded in death by her parents, husband and 11 siblings.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 from 4-8 p.m. at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue where a funeral service will begin on Thursday at 11 a.m. Burial will be at York Chapel Cemetery at a later date.
