Thomas J. Wilhelm, 69, of Clyde passed away Friday, December 14, 2018 at The Bellevue Hospital. He was born August 22, 1949 in Fremont, Ohio the son of Bernard E. and Grace A. (Edwards) Wilhelm.
Tom attended Sacred Heart Church as a child and also attended school there. He was a 1967 Graduate of Fremont Ross High School. Tom entered the US Army in 1967 and completed basic training at Fort Jackson, SC. He was then stationed at Fort Gordon for 6 months before being transferred to Fort Eustis, VA. He served in South Vietnam at Qui-Nhon as a boat operator in the 1098th Med. Boat Co. He returned to Fort Eustis following his tour of duty. Upon discharge, Tom returned to Fremont, and served in the National Guard for 10 years. Tom worked in Fremont at his family’s business, Benny’s Pastry & Pizza Shoppe on Garrison Street until the business closed in the 1970’s. He then worked at Kelsey-Hayes-Kingsway, Callaghan Flooring, Progress Plastics, and retired from Fremont Plastic Products in 2005.
He was a Life member of the Fremont VFW Post 2946 and American Legion Green Springs Post 295, and the Fremont Moose Lodge. He loved his garden and planting flowers and trees. Through thick and thin he loved the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and was diehard Ohio State fan.
Tom is survived by his wife, Roberta Dianne (Myers) Wilhelm, whom he married July 5, 1991 in Tiffin, Ohio; daughter, Kim Ring of Bay Village; step-children: Rebecca Myers of Clyde and James L. (Shari) Covert of Clyde; Grandchildren: Kaitlin and Zachary Myers of Clyde, and Ashleigh and James Covert III of Fremont; Great grandchildren: Railynn Schell and Skylar Garza, Emilia Purdham; Nieces: Tammie (Tonya) Wilhelm; Nephews: Terry and Tim (Michele) Wilhelm; great nephews and niece: Chase, Austin, and Alayna Wilhelm; great-great niece, Harper Wilhelm; and his sister: Sherry (Wayne) Weiker.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Edward Wilhelm.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 from 1-3 p.m. at Foos Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 504 E. McPherson Highway, Clyde where a funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Butternut Ridge Cemetery.
