Thomas Herbert Davenport of Bellevue, Ohio passed into the arms of our Lord on Monday, October 21, 2019 after a brief illness. Thomas was born on March 15, 1933 in Sandusky Ohio to Orme and Elva (Bragg) Davenport.
Thomas graduated from Margaretta High School in Castalia, Ohio, and enlisted in the Army National Guard at Fremont Company B, March 1951 at age 17 and was called to active duty with the 37th Buckeye Infantry Division for the Korean War. Thomas served in NATO 32nd AAA Mildenhall RAF 1952 and 1953 as a squad leader Corporal. He was honorably discharged November 1953 and earned the Presidential Unit Citation, Expert Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, and other decorations as an Expert Rifleman in the 148th Infantry Regiment. In the 1980s, he served as a Lieutenant with his son Mark in the Ohio Wing CAP USAF Auxiliary. Thomas married his beloved wife Annetta (Henman) of 56 years on June 22, 1963 and resided in Bellevue some 50 years, owner and operator of Bellevue Radio and TV service and sales. He was a life member of the American Legion and Four County Young at Heart. He enjoyed baseball, boxing, basketball, particularly attending his 12 grandsons and granddaughters’ events. He was an avid trapper, hunter and fisherman. Most of all, he was a loving, caring and generous husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Tom is survived by his son, Mark (Terri) Davenport of Sylvania; daughters: Deborah (Duane) Hay of Bellevue, and Brenda (Chris) Lilly of Orofino, ID; grandchildren: Austin Davenport, Caleb Davenport, Nathan Davenport, Joshua Davenport, Savannah (John) Taylor, Luke (Beth) Hay, Derek Hay, Dinah Hay, Quinton (Kaitlin) Davenport, Maddy Lilly, Gabby Lilly, Emmett Lilly, brother, Howard Davenport of WI.
In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his wife, Annetta Davenport (Henman), whom he married June 22, 1962 at the Bethel Baptist Church in New Carlisle, OH; grandson, Gabriel William Hay; and siblings: Marion Jean, Russell, and Roger.
Friends will be received Friday, October 25, 2019 from 5-7 p.m. at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue where a funeral service will begin on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial and Military Honors will follow at Bellevue Cemetery.
