Susan (Graves) Nicely

Susan Graves Nicely, 73, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at her home in Lyme Township following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Nicely is survived by her sister, Nadine (Graves) Umstead of Mount Gilead; her daughter, Dr. Emily Marie Nicely of Wakeman; her sons, Dr. Aaron Graves Nicely of Bellevue and Elliot Sandon Nicely of Lakewood; four nieces and three nephews; five grandchildren; and many close friends.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Wilson and Marie Ellen (Anker) Graves; her husband, Dr. David Aaron Nicely; and her son, David Andrew Nicely.

Born September 25, 1947, Mrs. Nicely was a resident of Galion. After graduating from Galion High School in 1965, she attended The Ohio State University where she studied outdoor education and recreation. Later, she married Dr. David Nicely of Bellevue on December 19, 1971 and began a family soon after. 

Over the course of her life, Mrs. Nicely was an avid community leader. In addition to volunteering with the Special Olympics, she was a Brownie Troop Leader as well as being actively involved in the Lyme School Parent-Teacher Association. Mrs. Nicely was also a member of the Althea Chapter #438 of the Order of the Eastern Stars for 47 years, serving one term as the Worthy Matron in 2002.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Afterward, she will be interred alongside her late husband at Strongs Ridge Cemetery in Lyme Township.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Special Olympics or the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
