Steven Hay Obituary

Steven “Squeaky” Hay, age 74 of Bellevue, OH, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2025. Steve was born August 24, 1951, the son of the late Leon and Rose Marie (Hipp) Hay.

Steve was known for his quick wit, sharp sarcasm, and sense of humor that could brighten any day. A hell of a euchre player, he rarely turned down a good game—or a good snack. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, like scratching off lottery tickets, visiting the casino, camping, gardening, watching soap operas with his wife, and spending time outdoors. Steve also loved to travel, especially to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and Amish Country, where he made many fond memories.

Steve proudly served his country in the United States National Guard for 6 years. He dedicated 43 years to Sandusky Crushed Stone/Hanson, where he was known as a reliable and hardworking presence. Later, he worked for Dendinger Bros., where his coworkers affectionately called him a “fiddlefart.” Steve was also a proud member of the Bellevue Eagles #490 and cherished the friendships he built there over the years.

Above all, Steve loved his family and friends, who brought him the greatest joy in life. He was a devoted husband, a proud dad, and a loving grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Steve is survived by his wife, Cheryl (Dendinger) Hay, whom he married March 3, 1973; daughters: Mindy (Corey “Corky”) Fazio of Bellevue and Missy (John) Eberle of Bellevue; grandchildren: Savannah Dolores Fazio, Callie Rose Fazio, Reese Mckenna Fazio, Ella Ann Eberle, Ian Edward Eberle, and Zane Steven Eberle; brother, Larry (Eileen) Hay of Clyde; sisters: Kathi Miller of Bellevue and Sandy (Bill) Dean of Bellevue; and brothers-in-law: Charlie Durnwald and Frank Risner.

In addition to his parents, Steve is preceded in death by his brothers: Dennis and Frederic Hay; sisters: Barbara Risner and Sharon Durnwald; father and mother-in-law: Jake and Dolores Dendinger; brother-in-law, Dean Miller; and an unborn child.

Friends will be received on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 2-7:00pm at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Pl, Bellevue, OH 43410. A rosary will be recited just before visitation at 1:45pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, at 10:00am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 550 Smith Rd, Fremont, OH 43420
