Heaven gained a very special lady.
Starleen Sue (Weilnau) Meyer, 76, of Clyde passed away unexpectedly in Ft. Pierce, Florida surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from a massive stroke. Starleen was born at Bellevue Hospital on April 24, 1948, the beautiful daughter of the late Kenneth W. Weilnau and Gladys (Bingel) Weilnau Frantz. Starleen married Kenneth M. Meyer on October 11, 1969, and spent 55 wonderful years together. Starleen was a 1966 graduate of Margaretta High School.
Starleen was the most selfless person you could meet. Let her be in her nightgown, have her iced tea, and a book and then let her go to the sewing machine and she was happy! When it was time to eat they would go to one of their favorite restaurants, or if they didn’t want to go out, Ken would cook. In Starleen’s younger years, she was a member of the Groton Farmers 4-H Club, she would be found at the fair showing her animals and entering her sewing projects or out on the tractor with her dad. Starleen played piano & organ in Mellow Tones Dance Band from age 13 and other dance bands until 1982. Starleen played at many churches, most recently she was the organist at First Presbyterian Church in Clyde. She was also a member of the Clyde Career Women. If Starleen wasn’t in her favorite chair you could find her in the sewing room either fixing a pair of pants for one of the boys or working on tissue box covers so that their product was perfect for all the shows that Teri would line up. Starleen & Ken were foster parents through Catholic Charities & Erie County for many years, fostering 44 children. She enjoyed wintering in Sebring, Florida where they made many friends. Starleen & Ken started Kenleen’s Flower Shop in 1971, after closing they moved to Downtown Florist in Bellevue until they wanted to retire. But even after retirement, you could find her at Forget-Me-Not Flowers and Gifts in Bellevue. Her greatest accomplishments were being with her family and being with them, especially her two grandsons. Starleen’s family was not just her husband and kids, it was her camping family, her church family, her Florida family, and her friends who were more like family.
Starleen is survived by her husband, Ken, and children: Teri Lin (John) Campbell, Kenn Lyn (Linda) Meyer, Lyle Lyn (Libby) Meyer, & Geof Lyn (Cathy) Meyer; 2 grandsons: Lynkin and Lindyn Meyer; foster daughter, Alexandria Marie Carter; 11 bonus grandchildren; 15 bonus great grandchildren & 3 bonus great-great grandchildren (Starleen was proud her children found their mates and took their kids in just as they were her own, she loved them all, step was only a word, they were loved as born by blood) bonus brother, Jimmy (Nancy) Frantz; bonus niece & nephew, Kris & Shannon Frantz; and biological brother, Duane Weilnau.
Starleen is preceded in death by her parents; bonus father, Nyal Frantz; step-brother, Michael Frantz; in-laws: Harold Meyer, Emma & Lawrence Lochotzki; sister-in-law, Karol Meyer; and a bonus granddaughter.
