Roger A. Orwig, age 83 of Bellevue, OH, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at his home. Roger was born May 26, 1941, in Bellevue, the son of the late Alvin and Hazel (Hill) Orwig.
Roger was a graduate of York School Class of 1959. He served in the Army National Guard and was a member of the VFW and the Eagles. He loved watching NASCAR and rooting for any Ford to win, but especially Team Penske. He also had his own experience with racing as one of the owners of a team that won the 1964 NHRA Summer Nationals for the Class B Dragster event in Indianapolis.
Above all he cared deeply for his family. Roger taught his oldest granddaughter to read by patiently reading books to her over and over until they both had a whole bookcase nearly memorized, never saying no and not once complaining. He is going to be dearly missed.
Roger is survived by his very special friend, Shirley Covella of Bellevue, and her daughters: Teri (Chuck) Fields of Bellevue, and Tami Wiley of Columbus; grandchildren: Brittani Covella, Kyle Fields, Anna Jones, and Brianna Wiley; and brothers: Nelson (Glenna) Orwig of Kansas, and Wesley (Virginia) Orwig of Texas and his nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Roger is preceded in death by his sister, Carol Hoffman.
Services for Roger will be held privately.
