Robert Ommert Obituary

Robert Ommert, 72, of Bellevue passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.  He was born January 31, 1948 in Norwalk the son of Henry and Norma (Erkman) Ommert.

Bob served in the United States Navy on the USS Robinson during Vietnam, where he was awarded two Bronze Stars.  He served as a former Auxiliary Officer for the Village of Monroeville and was employed at Bunge where he worked as a boiler operator.  He was a member of Bellevue Assembly Church, a life member of the VFW Post 38, the Bronson Conservation Club, Lifetime member of Amvets Post 17, the NRA, and the National Wild Turkey Association.

He enjoyed woodcarving and being outdoors hunting and fishing. Bob enjoyed more than anything being a Best Friend to his grandchildren and always being there for them.

Bob is survived by his wife, Beverly (Mull) Ommert of Bellevue, whom he married February 20, 2016;  His children: Kerry (Larry) Phillips of Wooster, Stacy Smith of Bellevue, Jodie (Dana) Brown of Bellevue, Jean Mull of Bellevue, and Susan Mull of Tiffin; 11 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; a brother, Larry Ommert of Sandusky; sister-in-law, Carol Ommert of Norwalk and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Janice Ommert whom he married March 18, 1967 in Stockton, California; son-in-law, Philip Smith, his brother William Ommert, sisters, Shirley Wilcox and sister Nancy Hills, and sister-in-law, Sue Ommert.

A private memorial gathering will take place.  A public memorial service will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Bob’s honor to the Amvets Post 17, Sandusky or VFW Post 38, Norwalk..
