Robert Holmer, 87, of Bellevue passed away Thursday, November 16, 2023 at The Willows at Bellevue. He was born July 21, 1936 in Bellevue the son of Albert and Catherine (Kleinfelter) Holmer. Bob married Elaine Orians on September 7, 1957 at Immaculate Conception Church in Bellevue, she preceded him in death in 2018.
Bob was a lifetime farmer, a job he truly loved. He and his brother Don started Holmer Farms and was later joined by their sons, Jerry and Tony. After “retiring” he could still be found working ground or at the shop. He was a member of St. Gaspar del Bufalo Church, Bellevue Knights of Columbus; and Eagles Aerie 490.
An avid race fan, he could regularly be found at Attica Raceway Park, where he attended over 630 races and operated the push Jeep with his son Jerry. He also enjoyed going to the tractor pulls. Bob loved to play euchre and in his later years developed a knack for baking and enjoyed making coffee cakes and delivering them to others. On his birthday, he could be found with a German Chocolate Cake made from scratch in front of him.
He was a loving father, and grandfather; He instilled a good work ethic in his children and led by example. He was an avid supporter of his grandchildren and could be found at all of their events.
Robert is survived by his son, Jerry (Renee) Holmer of Bellevue; daughters: Sharon (Alvin) Zeller of Bellevue, Janice (Tim) Watson of Bellevue, and Kathy (Mark) Kaple of New Washington; 6 grandchildren: Jacob (Ashley) Holmer, Emily (Joe) DeBlase, Bryan (Melissa) Zeller, Brad (Brianna) Watson, Curtis (Lauren) Watson, Janelle (Jacob Bollenbacher) Watson; 10 great grandchildren: Jaxson, Braden, Layne, Quinn, Eli, Brynnleigh, Jarrett, Ryan, Alex, and Noah; brother, James (Shirley) Holmer of Willard; sister, Joanne (Tom) Shook of Tiffin; and sister-in-law, Sandy Holmer of Republic;.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his brother, Donald Holmer.
Friends will be received on Sunday, November 19, 2023 from 2-8 p.m. at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue where the Rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will begin on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Gaspar del Bufalo Church, 16209 Co Rd 46, Bellevue, OH 44811. Burial will follow at Bellevue Catholic Cemetery.
