Richard Robinson Obituary

Richard B. Robinson, born January 16, 1945 of Clyde, Ohio passed away on Thursday November 18th at the age of 76.

He lived most of his life in Clyde, Ohio and spent the last 50 years living in the very heart of Clyde. He was a Clyde High School graduate of 1963 with a lifelong love of sports. He joined the Navy upon graduating and served on the USS Mars in the Vietnam War for four years from 1964-1968. Upon leaving the navy, he worked at Whirlpool, the world’s largest washing machine plant, for over 40 years until retirement in 2004 in various roles. He enjoyed sitting on his front porch, going to the Eagles, walking to the community park on a daily basis with his wife Mary and their two Yorkies, Buddy Bubbles and Diddo Dandy and traveling to his navy reunions with his daughters. He was so proud to have served in the US navy, was an extremely hard worker his entire life and active each day. Most of all, he had the greatest gift of talking and loved to meet new people.

In addition to his joy of talking with people, his love of sports was a major part of his entire life. He was always an athlete and a great basketball player, bowler and golfer. He was still trying to perfect his golf game to this day, always watching tutorials, trying out a new golf club or a new technique.   He enjoyed sharing his golf tips with others. He never wanted to miss an Ohio State Football Game, The Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians or Cleveland Cavaliers game. In fact, he had always said one of his favorite birthdays was going to the Cavs Game with his daughter Karina. In the early days, he also coached his daughters little league softball games and enjoyed giving sporting advice to all of his children. Watching his kids play sports was ultimately one of the highlights of his life with his oldest daughter Karina’s volleyball and softball, his daughter Denise running track and playing tennis and his son Greg’s basketball. He never missed a single game and still talked of those moments today. He could remember specific moments and details better than anyone. You would often still see him at various Clyde Flier sporting events year-round as he was a dedicated lifelong Flier Fan. Most recently he was so proud of Denise running in the 125th Boston Marathon this past October and enjoyed sharing this with others.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Robinson, Clyde OH; daughter Karina Robinson-Borer and son in law Joseph, Olmsted Falls, OH; daughter Denise Silcox and son in law Andy, Upper Sandusky, OH; son Greg Robinson and daughter in law Melissa, their daughter / his granddaughter Hannah, Clyde OH;  stepson Raymond Wambold and wife Megan their children Alexandria and Lewis, Toledo OH; stepson Allan Wambold, Toledo OH; brother Douglas Robinson and sister n law Vera,  Leconto, Florida; Nephew Jason Robinson and his wife Mary, Houston, TX; nephew Aaron Robinson and wife Jackie; Lowell, IN; nephew Ryan Robinson and wife Carolina, NC; nieces Gaye Mills, Holly Smelser and Paulette Smelser, all from Celina OH; cousin Louise Ann Bullinger; Fremont OH.
