Refugio Montano, Jr. age 80 of Toledo, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2020 at Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. Refugio was born June 21, 1940 in Weslaco, TX the son of the late Refugio, Sr. and Cecelia (Maldonado) Montano.
Refugio worked for the City of Toledo in the Streets and Signs Department. He also worked for M&R as a painter for 25 years, and owned Montano Catering for 42 years. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose – 713, and served as a past Governor. Refugio enjoyed cooking, sports, travelling, trips to the casino, playing cards, and, most of all, spending time with his family.
Refugio is survived by his wife, Helen (Barrera) Montano of Toledo; sons: Kenny (Raquel) Montano, Rene Montano, Rufus Montano, and Juan (Mary) Montano all of Toledo; daughters: Cecelia Montano, Lisa Montano, and Rachel Montano all of Toledo; 30 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Frank Montano of Chicago, IL; sister, Diamond Cantu of Chicago, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Refugio is preceded in death by his first wife, Annie Montano; son, Larry Montano; daughter, Veronica Montano; brothers: Raymond Montano and Renaud Montano; and sister, Yolanda Aguilar.
Services for Refugio will be held privately. Entombment will take place at Greenlawn Memory Gardens in Clyde.
