Paul E. Roth was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1935, to Amelia (Brown) and Clement Roth in Thompson Twp., Seneca Co., OH. Paul, surrounded by family, was peacefully called home Feb. 26, 2026 to help work on heavenly projects.
As an infant, Amelia passed and Paul was blessed to be raised by Agnes (Brown) and Walter Dick. Belonging to Clyde St. Mary’s, he could be found serving Mass, helping mom Aggie at church, and dad Walter doing cemetery lawn work and digging graves. Being an exceptional high school athlete, he was a member of the State championship track team while also being varsity baseball catcher. After graduation in 1954, he worked with several local contractors building homes. On a whim, he went with a neighbor and enrolled in Toledo Barber College. He cut hair for four generations while continuing to practice carpentry for over 50 years. He became known to many as “Paul the Barber” or “Clipper.” Dec. 1, 1956, he married Carolyn (Thompson) of Bellevue. He along with family and friends built the “Roth Ranch” where they raised Paula (Roth) Downie, Cindy (Jim) DePolo, Steve (Robin) Roth, and Mark (Julie) Roth in Bellevue.
He was a six-year member of the Army National Guard/Reserve. As a Bellevue community member, he belonged to Immaculate Conception Parish, Knights of Columbus, Chamber of Commerce, Fraternal Order of Eagles (Golden Eagle), and Eagle Anglers (one of the founding fathers of the annual Kids’ Fishing Rodeo). Also, a member of the Agricultural Heritage of Huron County demonstrating and exhibiting wood carving in the Heritage barn. Many decades were spent at the Wood Carver’s Den creating award winning carvings, and until recently, he was teaching fellow carvers. He was a noted collector of treasures, sharing his findings with his loved ones. He enjoyed sponsoring and playing on his own men’s softball team, restoring a Lyman boat, fishing trips, flying kites, building a tractor and watching grandchildren’s activities. You never knew what you would find in his hands; tools, sports equipment or a grandchild’s hand.
Survived by his children, grandchildren; Cassie (Adam) Saunders, Thomas Downie, Matt (Melinda) DePolo, Lauren (Derek) Burkhart, Shawna (Dan) Wadden, Natasha (Bo) Shaw, and Savanna (Mike) Gedridge. Including great-grandchildren; Amelia, Oliver, Calvin, Madeline, Macy, Noah, Ella, Nora, Myla, Olivia, Molly, Knox, Axel, Maxlyn, and Rowan. Siblings and In-laws; Ruth (Gary) Chudzinski, Roger (Donna) Dick, David (Kay) Dick, and Jodi (Thompson) Matter. Special friend, Bette Smith. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by wife, Carolyn (2005), parents: Clement and Amelia Roth and Walter and Agnes Dick. Siblings and In-laws; Walter (Marian) Roth, Arthur, Marion (Betty) Roth, Robert (Kate) Roth, Barb (Jim) Vogel. Son-in-law, Don Downie.

A Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 3:30pm, followed by visitation from 4-7:00pm at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Pl, Bellevue, OH 44811. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 10:30am at St. Mary Catholic Church in Clyde, 609 Vine St., Clyde, OH 43410. Burial will be held privately.
