Norman Winke Obituary

Norman G. Winke. 96, of Fremont, Ohio passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Valley View Health Campus, Fremont, Ohio.  He was born on August 3, 1923 in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Raymond and Clara (Halbisen) Winke. 

Norman served in the U.S  Army during World War II from January 1943 thru December 1945 in Normandy, No France, Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe. Medals received were the American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars, and the Good Conduct Medal.  Norman married Eleonore E. Whitt on August 3, 1967 in Monroe, Michigan and she passed January 2, 2018.  He worked at Bendix and Whirlpool Corporation for many years before retiring and then was a very successful grocery and carryout owner, (Winke’s Market & Stadium Carryout), along with his wife before selling the businesses and eventually moving to Florida where they lived year-round.  He enjoyed his family, playing cards, stamp and coin collecting, outside yard work, and all the sunshine he could find.  Years later they returned to the Fremont and Akron area and eventually Norman back to Fremont.

Norman is survived by his son Kenneth G. (Carol) Winke, Clyde and daughter, Carol S. (Jim) VanFleet, Clyde; stepsons, Bernard J. Whitt, Fremont, David A. Whitt, Port Clinton, and stepdaughter, Eleanor A. (Whitt) Liodos of Akron; grandchildren Kevin (Colleen) Winke, Craig (Deborah) Winke, Kimberly (Ron) Hagemeyer, Mathew (Arlene) Winke, Kenneth Winke, Heidi (Jeff) Rushing, Heather Haueter, David Gregg, Melanie Kaster, Jason (Susan) Burdette, Jamie Pryor; step grandchildren Eric Whitt, Ryan Whitt, Vanessa Whitt, Coe-Allen Whitt, Jessica Liodos, Brittany Liodos, Nicholas Liodos; great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren, siblings Ronald Winke, Fremont, and Diane Johnson, Fremont

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eleonore, son, Alan Winke, brothers, Donald Winke, sisters, Dorothy (Leo) Dickman, Joan (Robert) Beard, and Marie Smallwood.

Funeral Services will be Friday at 10:30 am at Foos Funeral Home & Cremation, 504 E McPherson Hwy, Clyde, Ohio, 43410. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
