Nancy Ray-Leiter, 94, of Catawba Island and Bellevue passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Clyde Gardens Place in Clyde. She was born November 12, 1929, in Toledo, the daughter of Henry Tanner Jr. and Lucy (Hensley) Tanner.
A longtime resident of Catawba Point, Nancy loved everything about the lake, especially listening to the ferryboat horn, fishing, trips to Put-In-Bay, and inviting her family to gatherings on weekends there. In her later years, she enjoyed wintering in Arizona with her daughter Sue. She was a proud grandmother, and avid supporter of her grandchildren attending many of their sporting events.
Nancy worked in the Bellevue Municipal Court for many years. When she retired in the early 1990s, she was serving as the Clerk of Courts. She was also very involved with Abigail Ministries in Norwalk.
She is survived by her 4 children: Thomas (Sandra) Ray of Bellevue, Ronald (Terri) Ray of Bellevue, Susan (Ronald) Kuhn of Arizona, and Melissa Wright of Florida; Daughter-in-law Judith Ray of Hiram; 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; and siblings: Judy LaVallee of Texas and Richard (Beth) Tanner of Florida.
In addition to her parents, Nancy is preceded in death by her first husband, M. Paul Ray, whom she married August 28, 1948, and who preceded her in death on December 6, 1995; second husband, Charles Leiter, whom she married in 1997 and who preceded her in death in 1999; son, David Ray; grandson, Jude Ray; and sister, Bonnie Fleming.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, from 4 -7 p.m. at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue. A funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church, 231 E. Center Street, Bellevue. Burial will follow at Bellevue Catholic Cemetery.
