Mary Lou (Stein) O’Brien, 89, of Flat Rock, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at the Parkvue Healthcare Center in Sandusky. She was born on August 4, 1936, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to John J. Stein Jr. and Viola (Lowden) Stein.
A 1956 graduate of the former Thompson High School, Mary Lou retired from Central Soya in Bellevue. She was a dedicated member of St. Gaspar del Bufalo Catholic Church, where she also belonged to the Altar Rosary Society. Additionally, she was an active participant at the Four County Young at Heart Senior Center in Bellevue, enjoying cards and bingo. She also had a unique hobby of collecting quarters.
Mary Lou is survived by her son, Anthony P. (Robin) O’Brien of Castalia; her daughter, Carol Marie Balduff of Sandusky; her granddaughter, Kylie O’Brien; and her siblings: John J. Stein III of Flat Rock, Anthony R. (Ruth) Stein of Bellevue, and Cecilia Ann Strecker of Bellevue.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Rose Stein; her brother-in-law, Dennis Strecker; and her niece, Tamara Keller.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Parkvue Healthcare and especially the Boeckling Court staff as well as the staff of Buckeye Hospice.
Friends may call on Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 4-7 p.m. at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue, where the Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Gaspar del Bufalo Catholic Church, 16209 E CR 46, Bellevue, Ohio 44811. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery.
