Mary L. DeBlase, age 90 of Bellevue, passed away Monday, May 1, 2023, at the Willows of Bellevue. Mary was born November 7, 1932, in Piqua, OH, the daughter of the late Peter and Irene (Malnati) Colussi.
Mary graduated from Sandusky High School in 1950. She attended Bowling Green State University and the Providence Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1954. She worked for a time at both the Providence Hospital and the Bellevue Hospital. She was a devoted mother and wife to her husband Anthony.
Mary enjoyed music, classic movies and television, American History, and reading. She volunteered her time in the cafeteria at ICS School. She also served as a reading volunteer at York School. She was a big sports fan, following both state and local amateur teams, as well as the Browns and Indians. She and Tony closely followed and enjoyed the athletic events and all activities of their children and grandchildren.
They vacationed often in the eastern United States, particularly Washington DC and the New England states. Their home was decorated in an Early American style, displaying many items brought back from their trips there.
Mary was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Bellevue.
Mary is survived by her husband, Anthony DeBlase of Bellevue, whom she married May 30, 1955, at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Sandusky; children: Michael (Doreen) DeBlase of Bellevue, Anthony (Darlene) DeBlase of Bellevue, and Lisa (Rick) Novitski of Fremont; grandchildren: Emily (Dan) Freitag, Anne Bogner, Phillip (Lydia) DeBlase, Jeff (Krista) DeBlase, Natashia (Trevor) Trimble, Dominic (Azarielle Brown) DeBlase, and Nick (Emily) Novitski; 14 great-grandchildren with another due in the fall; brothers-in-law Frank, Joe, and Sam DeBlase of Bellevue, and sister-in-law Angie Schlett of Bellevue; numerous nieces and nephews; and sister, Joann Soldano of Bellevue.
In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her son, Mark DeBlase.
Friends will be received Sunday, May 7, 2023, from 5-8:00pm at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Pl, Bellevue, OH 44811. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023, at 11:00am at Immaculate Conception Church, 231 E. Center Street, Bellevue. Burial will follow at Bellevue Catholic Cemetery.
