Manuel Valero, Sr., age 76 of Clyde, OH, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at his home. Manuel was born June 23, 1949, in Holden, WV, the son of the late Antonio and Antonia (Aleman) Valero.
Manuel was a proud graduate of Logan High School in West Virginia, class of 1967. At the age of 21, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army. He served with honor during the Vietnam War, earning a Purple Heart, the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, and numerous other commendations for his bravery and dedication. Manuel remained deeply proud of his military service throughout his life and often enjoyed sharing stories from his time in the Army.
Outside of his service, Manuel found joy in many simple pleasures. He was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to baseball, faithfully cheering on the Detroit Tigers. He also enjoyed spending time golfing and bowling, and could often be found trying his luck playing Bingo, KENO, or the lottery. Above all, Manuel was known for his generous spirit. He was the kind of man who would help anyone in need and took great pride in being part of his small-town community, where he made many lasting friendships.
Manuel is survived by his children: Eddie (Naomi) Kolota of West Liberty, Antonia Sabo of Fremont, Manuel Valero, Jr. of Clyde, and Mercedes Flores of Loraine; grandchildren: Santana, Olivia, Estrada, Brycenton, Brenton, Braydon, Sandy, Sariyanna, Austin, Addison, and Asher; great-grandchildren: Aubrianna, Jahsiah, Serenity, Jahseh, Jahkoa, and Zendayah; and siblings: Val Valero of Clyde, Mary Lou (Harold) Workman of Clyde, and Stella Whitt of Logan, WV.
