Kenneth Turner Obituary

Kenneth E. Turner, age 74 of Clyde, passed away Monday, February 15, 2021 at his home. Ken was born December 21, 1946 in New Tazewell, TN, the son of the late Dayton and Sally (Griffin) Turner.

Ken was a hard-working husband of 52 years and a loving father, papa, grandpapa, and devout friend. And it showed. He was known to almost everyone as a local Country Music Legend. For most of his life, Ken worked at Whirlpool, and on the weekends, he played music. Some of the first bands he played in were Kenny and the Kensmen, Fast Break Band, and Ridin’ Shot Gun. He also enjoyed tinkering in his garage and selling anything and everything he could to make a buck or two.

God blessed Ken with selflessness, wisdom, and intuition. He was passionate about life; he never met a stranger, and he knew how to read people in a very unique way. That ability allowed him to excel in his life, work, and on the stage, one of his major passions.

Kenny had a contagious smile and a one-of-a-kind sense of humor. He was a mentor and friend to many people, always had an ear to listen and the one there to help figure things out and get through a challenging situation. He would give you the last dollar in his pocket and the shirt off his back if you needed it. To say that Ken leaves a hole and will be greatly missed is an understatement.

This quote is quite fitting, to say the least, “The guitar has gone silent and the microphone stands alone… The graveled voice is quiet… Ken Turner has gone home”!

Ken is survived by his wife, Jacquelyn Lee (Newkirk) Turner of Clyde, whom he married Jan 21, 1969 in Clyde; daughters: Lori Lynn Turner of Clyde, and Michelle Lea (Shawn) Flanagan of Clyde; grandchildren: Brendyn Bennett, Kirstyn Bennett, Alyssa Williams (Andrew), Brieanna Flanagan, and Cassandra Flanagan; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Bill (Geral) Turner of New Tazewell, TN; and sister, Jewell (Joe) Ellison of Morristown, TN.

In addition to his parents, Ken is preceded in death by his siblings: Buck, Harold, Hubert, Dollie Mae, Thelma, Opal, and Nelly; and granddaughter, Chelsey Davidson.

Friends will be received Saturday, February 20, 2021 from 12-2pm & 4-6pm at Foos’ Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 504 E.
