Kathy Mays

Kathy Mays, 82, of Bellevue passed away surrounded by her family and wonderful caregivers on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at Extended Family Assisted Living in Bellevue.  She was born December 9, 1942 in Wooster the daughter of Harry Richards and Elizabeth (Simon) Palmer.

Kathy owned and operated the former Fittler’s Economy Market and later Hunter’s Card and Camera in Bellevue.  She was very involved over the years in the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce, and the Bellevue Professional Women’s Association.  At the age of 56, Kathy went back to school and became a Respiratory Therapist and worked at the Bellevue Hospital.  It was here she found her true passion was in providing loving and compassionate care to her patients until her retirement, where she then took on the role of hospice volunteer.

She loved animals, going to musicals, and in her younger years competed in roller skating and journalism competitions.

She is survived by her three children: Lori McCauley of Bellevue, Andy (Karen) Fittler of Virginia Beach, and Amy (Todd) Ramey of Bellevue; and grandson, Joshua Fittler of Orlando, FL.

She is preceded in death by her father, Harry (Ann) Richards; mother, Elizabeth (Peter) Palmer; first husband, Bruce Fittler; and second husband, Carl Mays.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Karen Pelton and the staff of Extended Family Assisted Living for the excellent care provided to Kathy over the last three years.

Private family services will be observed.  Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue is in care of arrangements.
