Karen Sawyer Obituary

Karen Sawyer, age 79 of Clyde, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at her home. She was born October 30, 1943, in Willard, OH, the daughter of the late Russell and Hazel Heisler (Blinzley).

Karen was a woman who loved to serve others, not only her family, but also her church and community. She was such a strong pillar for all. She received the Outstanding Citizen Award and served as Grand Marshall for the Halloween parade. Her passion for helping others led her to develop Auto Angels, a service providing rides to those in need. Her faith was so strong and her commitment to her church was unmatched. She served her church by teaching Sunday school, church council, and a host of other committees. Karen coached Little League for her children and then later for her grandchildren, was a 4-H advisor at Lutheran Home of Mercy, a Campfire leader, beautiful seamstress and wood crafter. She was a former board member for Habitat for Humanity and the American Cancer Society, where she was the co-chair for Relay for Life for 10 years. She also served on the Winesburg Christmas Committee, Christmas Tree Lane, and as an administrator for one of Clyde’s first Facebook groups, The Clyde-Green Springs Area News Group.

Karen's true passion and love was for her growing family, attending as many events and activities as she could to be with them....and her Cleveland Indians! She loved all sports, but her favorites were the Cleveland Indians (she refused to say Guardians), Cleveland Browns, KC Chiefs and her "my Homie," OSU and NASCAR, especially Kyle Larson lately! Because of her love for these sports, the family invites you to wear one of her favorite teams to her service in her honor.

Karen will be best remembered for being such an amazing, selfless Momma and Grandma/Sawyer/GG, and a dear friend to her many cherished friends that she adored and treasured!!

Karen is survived by her daughters: Michele (Jim) Waterfield of Fremont, Susan (Paul) Nichols of Clyde, and Lori (Curtis) Rogers of Clyde; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and sisters: Deanne Trill of Palm Harbor, FL, and Cynthia (Ken) Shoup of Willard.

In addition to her parents, Karen is preceded in death by husband, Cecil “Joe” Sawyer, Jr, whom she married April 21, 1961, in Willard; daughters: Sheryl Pero and Melinda Larkins; great-grandson, Nathaniel Sowards; and brother, Richard Heisler.

Friends will be received Saturday, December 17, 2022, from 11:00am until a memorial service beginning at 1:00pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 147 W Forest St, Clyde, OH 43410.
