Juan Antonio Peña Sr., 70, of Bellevue passed away Monday, January 13, 2025 at the University of Toledo Medical Center. He was born August 1, 1954 in Reynosa Tamps, Mexico the son of Antonio and Theresa (Balboa) Peña.
Juan was employed by Norfolk & Southern Railroad for 40 years until his retirement in 2014. He was a hardworking man, and could be found under the hood of a car most times. Juan enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He loved a good cup of coffee, laughing with friends and family and listening to music. He was his children’s and grandchildren’s biggest fans, and supported them in all their activities, especially watching them in softball, baseball and wrestling. He was a kind soul, always willing to help others without hesitation.
Juan married his beloved wife of 52 years, Rafaela Mendoza on August 31, 1972 in Mexico; She survives along with their four children: Leticia Schemmer of Deerfield Beach, FL, Yolanda Y. (Leon W.) Prochnow of Norwalk, Pamela (Christian Lewis) Peña of Bellevue, and Juan A. Peña Jr. of Norwalk; 15 grandchildren: Danielle Alexandra (Jesse) Hernandez, Sierra Alessandra (Tommy) Morrow, Jordan Leandra (Alex Wildman) Schemmer, Xavier Vincent (Francesca Rogers) Prochnow, Izaac Nevin Prochnow, Mya Brianna Prochnow, Sebastian Dimitri Peña, Roxanne Aurora Peña, David Vincent Peña, Julia Shayanne Peña, Emmanuel Joel Lewis, Manuel Joseph Chavez, Josiah Alexander Peña, Johana Alexandria Peña, and Julian Jeffrey Peña; great grandchildren: Alejandro Juan Hernandez, Vallen Schemmer, and Ace Michael Prochnow; Siblings: Zayda Rodriguez, Marta Elva Peña, Maria Yolanda Reyna, Dante Eliziar Peña, Amalia Tomasita Peña, Jose Ricardo Peña, Maria Theresa “Mayte” Peña, and Amelia Munoz.
In addition to his parents, Juan is preceded in death by his daughter, Julia A. Peña.
Friends will be received on Thursday, January 23, 2025 from 4 p.m. until a funeral service begins at 7 p.m. at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue.
