Joanne Elvina Slaymaker, 95, of Fremont, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 15th, 2025.
Born on January 20th, 1930, in Clyde, Ohio, Joanne was the daughter of the late Irvin and Lillian Mittan. She graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1948. After high school Joanne worked different odd jobs, until she later started worked for the United States Postal Service. After retiring from the United States Postal Service Joanne went on to become an LPN in 1983.
Joanne married her childhood sweetheart, Thomas Slaymaker, in 1947, in Kentucky. Together, they resided in Fremont, Ohio, and spent the winters in Florida. They raised three children and enjoyed a life full of love and adventure. Joanne enjoyed spending her time at flea markets and collecting antiques. Together, Joanne and Thomas owned & operated Jae’s Antiques and Tom’s Treasure Trove in Fremont, Ohio. Joanne also enjoyed traveling the world with her love. One of her most memorable trips was visiting The Holy Land.
She is survived by her children, Randy Slaymaker of Clyde, and Tom (Wendy) Slaymaker of Fremont; her grandchildren: Felicity, Matt, Brian, Illya, Ian, Brandon, and Nicole; many great & great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband and parents, Joanne is preceded in death by sisters, Jeanne Goodman, Betty Pfaff, and Karen Crispen; brother, Irvin (Butch) Mittan; daughter, Cathy Jones; and daughter-in-law, Glenda Slaymaker.
Friends will be received on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 1-4pm at Foos Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 504 E. McPherson Hwy, Clyde, OH 43410. A funeral service will follow, beginning at 4pm. A celebration of Joanne’s life will be held at a later date.
