Former Bellevue resident Jerry J. Burr, 95, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2025, while in assisted living in Lakewood, Ohio. He was born on February 1, 1930, the youngest of five children born to Jesse and Emma (Brandal) Burr.
Jerry grew up on Sheffield Street and, shortly after graduating from Bellevue High School, began the study of ballet in Cleveland, New York City, and London. He was one of the original members of the Joffrey Ballet. Throughout the 1950’s and early 1960’s, Jerry travelled across much of Europe, where he became well known and respected in the art of ballet. He especially enjoyed his time in Spain. Jerry interacted with many of the celebrities and royalty of the time, including Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, and Princess Grace of Monaco. He returned to Ohio in the late 1960’s to perform ballet within the United States, and eventually became Professor of Ballet at the University of Akron. Performing as Drosselmeyer in “The Nutcracker” was a very special role for him. After his retirement, Jerry resided in Lakewood but continued to perform ballet at the Cleveland Playhouse.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lynn, Tedd, and Mark, his sister, Martha Weldon, and nephew, David Weldon.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Foos and Foos Funeral Service is in care of arrangements.
