Janette Catherine Schmidt

Janette Catherine Schmidt, age 85, surrounded by family went home to her heavenly father on January 8, 2021 at Carlisle Place, Bucyrus, Ohio. She was born April 6, 1935 to Alfred Sr. and Sophia Amelia (Miller) Ruffing.

Janette was a graduate of Bellevue High School in 1953. She married her beloved husband, Richard, on May 12, 1956 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bellevue. After many years in Bellevue raising their family, they moved to Bucyrus in 1985. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Newcomers Club, Red Hat Society, and various card clubs. She was a selfless mother and homemaker who loved gardening, antiquing, cooking, and playing cards. Her family was of utmost importance and she was a proud follower of her grandchildren’s activities. Janette was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend and she will be sadly missed.

She is survived by her husband, two brothers, Myron Ruffing of Bellevue, and Alfred Jr. and Marie Ruffing of Laurenville, GA. Included survivors are her five children and in-laws; Richard Jr. and Angela Schmidt of Tamaqua, PA; Scott and Susan Schmidt of Spring Lake, MI; Rebecca and Tim Palko of Haslett, MI; Jennifer and Mike Walter of Shelby, OH; Benjamin and Jennifer Schmidt of Charlotte, NC.

She is also survived by her loving grandchildren whom she cherished, Torrey and Allison Schmidt, Tyler and Molly Schmidt, Travers and Shannon Schmidt, Schuyler and Evan Earl, Teague Schmidt, Sarah Schmidt and Min Lee, Stephen Schmidt, Jacklyn and David Holzwart, Bailey Walter and Camden Walter, Conrad Schmidt and Lydia Schmidt.

Janette was also blessed with seven adorable great grandchildren, Logan Schmidt, Lucy Schmidt, Trexler Schmidt, Tawson Schmidt, Eleanor Schmidt, Cillian Earl, and Adaline Holzwart. Along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Sophia Ruffing; sister Elizabeth Ruffing, sister Rosemary Taylor, brother-in-law Wilbur Taylor, brother Donald Ruffing and sister-in-law Carol Ruffing.

A graveside memorial will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 11:00 AM with Father Kyle Gase officiating at Bellevue Catholic Cemetery.

A memorial mass will be celebrated for Janette at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful that memorial contributions be made to Carlisle Place Activities or Kindred Hospice.
