James Scheerer Obituary

James D. “Jim” Scheerer, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at his home in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born in Clyde, Ohio, to the late Merrill and Ruth Scheerer.

Jim met his late wife, Judy, in 1964, and it was love at first sight. Judy was the love of Jim’s life and his best friend. He found joy in spending time outdoors and working on projects around the house, whether tending to his own home and yard or helping his children with theirs. He had a passion for antiquing, a sweet tooth for ice cream, and a love for bright-colored shirts and dressing sharply.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Sheri Scheerer; son, Jim Scheerer; grandchildren, Lauren (Brandon) Zollars, Alec Scheerer and Evan Scheerer; his nieces, Susan Bergeman and Beth Hackenburg; nephews, Richard Hackenburg and Keith Hackenburg and numerous great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Hackenburg; brother-in law, Donald Hackenburg; great nephew, Brett Beebe and his cat, Spanky.

Friends will be received Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 10 a.m. until a memorial service begins at 11 a.m. at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue.  Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Monroeville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tiffin University, NVFC Volunteer Firefighter, American Cancer Society or NRDC.
