James A. Ruffing, 84, of Bellevue passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on September 25, 2021. He was born April 11, 1937 in Bellevue the son of Werner and Pauline Ruffing.
James was a 1955 graduate of Bellevue High School. He was employed for 36 years with the United States Postal Service, including serving as Postmaster in Bellevue from 1978 until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the Bellevue Eagles Aerie 490 and various other organizations.
He spent many years playing in softball leagues, playing cards with his retired Postmasters group as well as with friends at the Eagles. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, as well as making wood crafts with her and especially enjoyed working their booth at the Oak Ridge Festival. Jim was always telling jokes and was an avid Cleveland Browns, Indians, and Ohio State Buckeye fan. He treasured the time spent with family and friends.
Jim married Margaret (Wills) Ruffing in 1985; She survives along with children: Denise Kovacs of Florida, Tim (Carmen) Ruffing of Cincinnati, Jamie Ruffing of Bellevue, Charles (Lyn) Lilly of Norwalk, and Richard (Linda) Lilly of Bellevue; Grandchildren: Whitney and Tyler Lilly, and Zarek (Alle), Kegan, Gunnar, and Dakota Lilly; siblings, Ruth (Ed) Hopper and David (Lu) Ruffing; and sisters-in-law, Dixie (Tom) Cooper and Jeanette Ruffing.
In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by a son, Jeff Ruffing, and brothers, Ray Ruffing and Tom Ruffing.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 from 10 a.m. until a funeral service begins at 1 p.m. at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue. Burial will follow at Bellevue Cemetery.
