Howard W. Shearer, age 97 of Clyde, passed away Sunday, August 8, 2021 at the Ohio Veteran’s Home in Sandusky. Howard was born September 22, 1923 in Knoxville, TN the son of the late Hiram and Lilly (Lawson) Shearer.
Howard graduated in 1941 from Jacksboro High School in Tennessee. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on April 18, 1943 and served on the USS Darby D. E. 218. Howard earned the Philippine Liberation Bar with Battle Star and the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with Four Battle Stars.
Howard is survived by his children: Sue Hollingsworth of Clyde, William (Yvonna) Shearer of Clyde, Teresa (Bruce) Durnwald of Vickery, and Rick (Christine Smith) Shearer of Clyde; grandchildren: Jim (Stephanie) Stroker, Carolyn (Bob) Pofok, Bruce (Jennifer) Durnwald, Brock Durnwald, Brandon (Angela) Durnwald, Austie (Derek) Wright, Nathan (Jana) Shearer, A.B. Tanner Shearer, Kyle (Kendra) Shearer, Keith (Valorie) Shearer, Emily (Robby) Cupp, Samantha Shearer, and Molly Shearer; 22 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, Howard is preceded in death by his wife, Sarah “Toby” (Witt) Shearer, several brothers and sisters, and son-in-law, Gary Hollingsworth.
Friends will be received Saturday, August 14, 2021 from 12pm until a funeral service beginning at 2pm at Foos Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 504 E. McPherson Hwy, Clyde, OH 43410. Burial with military honors will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
