Howard R. Jett, 91, of Bellevue passed away Friday, October 9, 2020 at The Willows at Bellevue. He was born March 18, 1929 in Columbus, Ohio the son of Otto P. and Bertha L. (Peters) Jett.
Howard was a second-generation auctioneer, known to all by Colonel H. R. (Dick) Jett, or simply Colonel. He held many auctions over his lifetime, including estate sales. He was the best at "crying" a sale. 'As good as the best, better than the rest', as he would always say.
He was an avid horseman, involved with 4-H, county fairs and was also involved in the Amish communities all over Ohio and Pennsylvania, hauling horses to and from auctions. He was also employed and retired from the N&W Railroad.
He is survived by his son, Howard “Rich” Jett Jr. of Audubon, Iowa; daughters, Teresa (Tom) Kirian of Republic, Brenda (Edward) Dawson of Grove City, OH, Rebecca (David) Rhodes of Turnersville, NJ and Cynthia Kirk of Crestline, OH; 13 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.
Howard is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dolores Mann; second wife, Katherine Griffin-Jett; son, Daniel Lee Jett; step-son, Jonathan Griffin Jr.; and siblings, Harold “Bud” Jett, and June Joseph.
Friends will be received on Friday, October 16, 2020 from 1 – 3:30 p.m. at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue. Under current Ohio mandates, masks and social distancing is required.
