Gus Esker McConnell, Jr.

Gus Esker “Jeff” McConnell, Jr, age 91 of Bellevue, OH, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Fisher Titus Medical Center in Norwalk, OH. Gus was born July 18, 1933, in Bellevue, the son of the late Gust and Arthena (Coffman) McConnell.

Gus served in the United States Army and was an active member of St. Sebastian Church, serving on several church committees through the years. He also served as a Sherman Township trustee for 16 years. Gus loved farming and was most proud of being a dairy farmer.

Gus is survived by his children: Terry (Pat) McConnell of Bellevue, Mary (Ed) Ross of Bellevue, Gregory (Sherry) McConnell of Republic, Suzanna (George) Hintze of Fremont, Nancy (Ron) Thomas of Wooster, David (Cindy) McConnell of Bloomville, Theresa (Fred) Leber of Monroeville, Mark McConnell of Attica, Debbie (Scott) Dresser of Monroeville, and Valerie (Mark) Bumb of Bellevue; 26 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; and sister, Cleo Jean Wolfe.

In addition to his parents Gus is preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Agnes (Miller) McConnell; great-granddaughter, Annalise Murphy; and 6 siblings.

The rosary will be recited on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 1:30pm followed by visitation from 2-7:00pm at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Pl, Bellevue, OH 44811. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 10:30am at St. Gaspar del Bufalo Catholic Church, 16209 Co Rd 46, Bellevue, OH 44811. Burial will follow at St. Sebastian Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Gus’ honor to St. Gaspar del Bufalo, the St. Sebastian Cemetery Fund, or to the Sorrowful Mother Shrine.
