Gerald “Jerry” Kastor, Sr. age 82, of Clyde, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky. Jerry was born September 30, 1940, in Fremont, son of the late Merritt & Virginia Mae (Franks) Kastor.
Jerry was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, S.C.R.A.P., and helped his wife, Jean, at the Sandusky County Fair. For many years, he coached Tim’s Little League team, Clyde Drive Thru, and Joe’s Pony League baseball team, Kiwanis, in Clyde.
Jerry graduated in 1960 from Clyde High School, where he excelled in athletics, football, track, and was the 1959 wrestling state runner-up. He retired from Armstrong Air in Bellevue, Ohio, and was known by many as Ziggy and Herk. Jerry enjoyed working with his hands and was quite the carpenter, working with his friend Carl Pocock doing masonry work and carpentry.
Jerry is survived by his school sweetheart and wife of 62 years, Jean (Dinan) Kastor, whom he married on October 1, 1960, along with their children, Karen (Brian) Serviss of Republic, Robin Hall, Gerald “Joe” Joseph Kastor, Jr., Tim (Heather) Kastor all of Clyde. Grandchildren Jeremiah Kerlin, Joel Kerlin, Angie Serviss, Ethan Hall, Jake and Emily Serviss, Dakota (Brittany Hill) Kastor, Jack, Sierra, Emma, great-grandchildren Zoey, Noah, and Waylon.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brothers, Merritt, Jr., Roland, Eugene, Leland, James Kastor, sister Carolyn Ingram, son-in-law Frank Hall, and daughter-in-law Regina Kastor.
Friends will be received Monday, January 23, 2023, from 11:00 am until the funeral service begins at 1:00 pm at Foos Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 504 E. McPherson Hwy, Clyde. Burial will follow at Ellsworth Cemetery.
