Gayle Baughn Obituary

Gayle Baughn, 84, of Bellevue passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at the Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky.  She was born April 18, 1937 in Lynn, Alabama the daughter of Austin “Ted” and Dorothy (Rose) Baughn.  The family moved from Lynn to Bellevue Ohio in 1953 and Gayle graduated from Bellevue High School in 1955. She was married to Arthur “Bud” Wollenslegel from 1957 to 1976 and during that time they had six children: Marty, Rod, Lisa, Randy, Tim, and Jon.

Gayle spent several years serving as the City Clerk of Courts, in Bellevue Ohio. In 1980 she moved back to her home state of Alabama and lived in Gulf Shores, then Birmingham, where she worked as a legal secretary for the remainder of her professional career.  She moved back to Bellevue after her retirement and remained there until her final days.

Gayle was a devout Civil War Historian and avid book reader. She loved the sound of hitting a jackpot at the local casinos and was also passionate follower of Rock n Roll music - especially The Rolling Stones, the Allman Brothers Band and all of the classic Blues artists.  Her children have fond memories of attending concerts and visiting the Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame together.

What brought her the most joy however, was spending time with her family.

Gayle is survived by her five sons, Marty Wollenslegel of Hilliard, Ohio, Rodney (Kim) Wollenslegel of Vacaville, CA, Randy Wollenslegel of Bellevue, Tim (Tricia) Wollenslegel of Sandusky, and Jon (Alesha) Wollenslegel of Sandusky; two daughters, Lisa (Matt) Fritz of Boise, ID and Kathy Ireland of Bokeelia, FL.  She was “Grandma Gayle” to 19 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren - with two more expected in early 2022. She is also survived by her sister, Rebecca Tidwell of Bellevue; numerous nieces, nephews, and special cousin, Sadie (SAY-Ruh) Little of Jasper Alabama.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Henry Farrell Baughn.
