Galen S. Baker

Galen S. Baker, age 46 of Sandusky, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky. Galen was born October 19, 1975, in Sandusky, the son of Angie Yount (Howard) and the late Terry Baker.

If ever someone could be called a gentle giant, it was Galen Baker. At 6’2, he looked up to very few people but, with four younger siblings and five children of his own, there were many who looked up to him. As the firstborn, Galen began his life as a clever and mischievous son who brought his parents nothing but joy and love…and maybe a grey hair or two. When his brothers and sisters came into the world, he worked hard to be worthy of the title of older brother. No one, except himself of course, could pick on his younger siblings or give his mom and dad a hard time.

Galen loved, and was amazingly talented, at many things including gaming and fishing. Let’s not even get started on how much he loved to eat. It’s a good thing he was also a talented cook! However, if you were to ask him what brought him the most joy in life, he would have been sure to tell you nothing made him happier than being a husband and a father. He dedicated himself to making sure his wife and children had the best possible life no matter how hard he had to work. And those five children? They brought him the same love and joy he brought his own parents…and maybe a few of those grey hairs too!

As loved as Galen is, it is inevitable that his presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Our comfort can be found in the reflection of our grief. We grieve because we loved and were loved in return. Galen, son, brother, husband, father, as you fly free of this world, know that a part of you will forever live in the hearts of all who knew you. We love you.

Galen is survived by his wife, Elayna Baker (Zuber), whom he married April 19, 2003 in Castalia; mother, Angie (John) Yount; sons: Harlow and Rafe Baker; daughters: Alyssa, Tessa, and Maddie Baker; brother, John (Jessica) Yount; and sisters: April Yount and Heather (Kerry) Tuttle.

Galen is preceded in death by his father, Terry Baker, and brother, Devin Baker.

Friends will be received Saturday, December 11, 2021, from 12:00pm until a memorial service beginning at 1:00pm at Providence Baptist Church, 1000 Gardner St, Bellevue, OH 44811. The family requests that all in attendance please wear a mask.
