Eugene Orwig Obituary

Eugene C. “Gene” Orwig, 91, of Bellevue passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at The Willows at Bellevue.  He was born March 14, 1929 in Bellevue the son of Albert C. and Mabel (Longer) Orwig.

Gene was a 1947 graduate of York High School, following graduation he attended Bowling Green State University. In 1951, Gene entered the United States Air Force where he served as a Staff Sargent from 1951-1955.  During his time in the military, he was stationed at Eglin AFB in Florida, Nouasseur AFB in French Morocco and Smokey Hill AFB in Kansas.  He married Lexa (Justiss) Orwig on March 11, 1953 in Folkston, Georgia just prior to his deployment to Morocco.  After his discharge from the military Gene began working for the Suddath Company as a payroll manager.  He would work for Suddath until his retirement.  Together with Lexa, Gene lived in Jacksonville, Florida and Terra Haute, IN until returning to Bellevue in 1995.  Lexa would precede him in death on December 22, 2013.  He was an avid Cleveland sports fan and Ohio State Buckeyes fan and rarely missed a game.  He enjoyed golfing, a hobby he enjoyed to do with his wife.  Gene was a member of Seybert United Methodist Church in Bellevue and American Legion Post 46.

He is survived by 7 nieces, 2 nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Lexa; son, Jay Alan Orwig; sister, Dorothy Alexander; and brothers, Donald and Raymond Orwig.

Private burial services will be held in Bellevue Cemetery.  A memorial service will be announced at a later date.  Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue is in care of arrangements.
