David Thiessen Obituary

David Allen Thiessen, 73, a long-time resident of Clyde passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at his home. He was born September 7, 1948, in Fremont, Ohio the son of Richard A. Sr. and Norma Jean (Scherf) Thiessen.

David graduated from Fremont Ross High School and then enlisted in the United States Coast Guard enjoying his post in New England skiing and eating seafood. After his 4 years of military service, he worked for the next 32 years at Whirlpool Corporation in many roles before his retirement in 2006.  Dave always had a soft spot for animals of all kinds. One of his most favorite vacations was with his family at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah where he volunteered to care for many animals in need. Dave's biggest joys were his children and his grandchildren! When both of his children were young, he spent countless hours assisting with homework, coaching sports, fishing, boating, camping and just being ever present in their lives! Upon his retirement, he made many trips to Toledo to see a newly released movie and have dinner with his son, Chad. He made the drive to Detroit more times than he ever thought imaginable to participate in his daughters' and grandchildren’s lives - daddy/daughter day dates, a myriad of youth activities and sports, playing board games and just being an active, fun, and vibrant grandpa!

David is survived by his two children, Angela Thiessen-Willson (David King) of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan and Chad Thiessen of Perrysburg, Ohio; 4 grandchildren: Luke, Lex, Liam, and Libby; brothers: Richard (Sandra) Thiessen Jr. of Port Clinton, William Thiessen of Green Springs, and James (Marsha) Thiessen of Fremont; numerous nieces and nephews and his ex-wife, Penny Thiessen of Perrysburg, who remained his friend, co-parent and co-grandparent throughout the remainder of his life.

David is preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of David’s life will take place at McPherson Cemetery in Clyde at 11am on Thursday July 21st with a lunch reception immediately following at Hall's Winery (1430 McPherson Hwy) Clyde for all friends and family … Dave would love to know his friends were raising a glass in his memory!
