David E. Layne, age 73 of Bellevue, passed away September 4, 2021, at The University of Toledo Medical Center. David was born April 20, 1948, in Belfry, KY, the son of Virginia (Grubb) Layne and the late James Layne.
David married the love of his life, Lea (Gannon) Layne on June 16, 1969. Together they built a beautiful life and have two children, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather that enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family.
David was a long-time member of Providence Baptist Church; a Christian man who was a role model for his family. David served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He was also a member of the Bellevue Eagles and VFW. He worked for the railroad for 37 years where he made many great friends and retired in 2008. He was an avid Bellevue Redmen, Cleveland Browns, Indians, and Ohio State fan. During his retirement he loved to golf with his close buddies whom he considered his best friends. David and Lea have enjoyed spending time for more than 45 years with their circle of close-knit best friends.
David is survived by his wife, Lea (Gannon) Layne; children: Kim (Brian) Schubert and Tim (Danielle) Layne; mother, Virginia (Grubb) Layne; grandchildren: Kelsey (Jeff) Bennett, Gabrielle (Kohl Dalton) Layne, Téa Layne, and Carson Layne; and great-grandchildren: Caraline, Grayson, and Amelia Dalton, and Vivienne Bennett.
David is preceded in death by his father, James Layne; brother, Paul Layne; and mother and father in law, Charles and Mary Gannon.
Friends will be received Wednesday, September 8, 2021, from 4-7pm at Providence Baptist Church, 1000 Gardner St, Bellevue, OH 44811, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at 11am. Burial will follow at York Chapel Cemetery.
