Daniel Herrera Obituary

Daniel Antonio Herrera, 69, of Fremont, died May 25, 2023 at home. Danny was born August 27, 1953, in Fremont, Ohio, to the late Antonio and Maria Herrera. He married, and is survived by Lisa on January 19, 2002. It was Vegas wedding that would last 21 years and provide a loving home full of life.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Lisa (Tuckerman) Herrera of Clyde, whom he married January 19, 2002 in Las Vegas, NV; sons: Salvador (Denise) Herrera of Fremont and Michael Herrera of Bellevue; step-daughters: Christina Rufer of Green Springs and Andrea (Andrew) Brown of Clyde; grandchildren: Chloe, Vincent, Whitney, Trevor, Loreli, Tayla, and Arraya; siblings: Elva King of Green Springs, Rene (Esmeralda) Herrera of Green Springs, Jamie (Alma) Herrera of Fremont, and Esther (Hector) Garza of Green Springs; Father-in-law Ronald Tuckerman of Fremont; sisters-in-law: Debra Thompson of Clyde and Dianna Humphrey of Fremont; and several loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, Daniel is preceded in death by his brother, Abel Herrera.

Danny graduated from Clyde High school. He served in the Army National Guard for 4 years. During and after his service he worked as a Water Service Maintainer for Norfolk Southern till his early retirement. He did not slow down after his retirement. Despite being diagnosed with lymphoma, he continued to live a life that was fuller than most over the next 10 years.

Danny's 1969 Pontiac GTO would appear in multiple car shows and be photographed for many to see. He enjoyed his gun collection and target shooting. If you were the recipient of one of his custom cake creations, you would know how talented and creative he was. His leatherwork was just another example of his artistic abilities. His garden was a highlight to his giving home. You were never allowed to leave his house empty handed during the summer.

If you had the honor of being part of Danny's world you would know how big his heart was. He could talk to anyone and they felt like they had known him forever. If you left without a smile or without laughing, it was because you were not paying attention. His wisdom, quick wit, and giggle could not be ignored. His biggest flaw is that he would always do for others and struggled with people doing for him.

He was proud of his sons that matched his heart in stature, and both of them would follow in his footsteps at the railroad. He loved his wife, daughters and family as they brought an abundance of life, purpose, and endless energy to his home.

Danny's backyard would be the backdrop of many family and friend gatherings. You would hear the engines of carts, and 4 wheelers. You would smile to the giggles of children and laughter of adults. You could smell the food that was made to feed 100 people plus a few more.

A light has been extinguished. We will feel the emptiness, but Danny's mark has been left. Fear not, as he will continue in our hearts and we will celebrate a beautiful man with a heart that was too big for this world.
