Cora D. (Hackler) Smith

Cora D. Smith, age 95, of Clyde, OH, passed away on March 28, 2026, at The Willows of Tiffin. Cora was born on June 3, 1930 in Wytheville, VA, the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Felty) Hackler. 

Cora lived a life centered around care, creativity, and devotion to those she loved. A graduate of Bethel High School, she began her working years at Bristol Hospital in Bristol, TN, and later at the American Thread Company, where her passion for sewing truly took root. That passion blossomed into a career as a designer at Infant Items, where her talent and attention to detail were evident in every piece she created.

Cora married the love of her life Greer Smith on March 12, 1951, and were happily married for 56 years. Cora found her greatest joy in sewing for her family, especially her grandchildren, and in quilting beautiful pieces that will be cherished by family and friends for generations. She took pride in her role as a homemaker, creating a warm and loving home filled with comfort and care. Even in her retirement, she remained active, working at Cedar Point where she mended garments at the Cedar Point Hotel, continuing to share her gift.

A faithful member of First Baptist Church in Clyde, lovingly known as the Brown Street Church, Cora’s life was a reflection of her strong faith, kind spirit, and dedication to others. She will be remembered for the love she stitched into everything she touched and the lasting impact she made on all who knew her.

Cora is survived by her children, Gary (Ginnie) Smith of Cornersville, TN and Paul (Treva) Smith of Clyde; grandchildren, Jason, Nathan (Elizabeth), Matt (McKenzie), Garrett (Pam), Gabrielle (Daniel), Montana (Andrew), and Remington (Jill); and 8 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Cora is preceded in death by her husband, Greer Smith; children, Kathy (Denny) Davenport and Barbara Jane Smith; grandchild, William Greer; and siblings, Pauline, James, Joseph, Alice, Marjorie, David, and Eva Lee.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 from 6:00-8:00pm at Foos Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 504 E. McPherson Hwy, Clyde, OH 43410. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, April 2, 2026, beginning at 11:00am at First Baptist Church - Brown Street Church, 620 Brown St. Clyde, OH 43410. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens.

Memorial donations may be made in Cora’s honor to the First Baptist Church - Brown Street Church, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
