Clarence Hammersmith, 94, of Bellevue passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Clyde Gardens Place in Clyde. He was born January 30, 1930, in Bellevue the son of August and Catherine (Biebricher) Hammersmith.
Clarence was a 1948 graduate of Bellevue High School. He was a farmer all his life, but also served in law enforcement and was a deputy sheriff in Erie County for 13 years. He had a great sense of humor and an infectious smile. He was an avid golfer, and loved family gatherings, especially Sunday potlucks.
He is survived by his daughters, Diane Manlet of Bellevue, Kathy Hackenburg of Bellevue, and Jeanne Enstad of Columbus; sons, Robert Hammersmith of Bellevue and Steven (Wendy) Hammersmith of Bellevue; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews; and companion and friend, Marna Muehlhauser.
In addition to his parents, Clarence is preceded in death by his wife, Garnet (Cole) Hammersmith whom he married August 21, 1951, in Indiana; brothers, Leonard and Clifford Hammersmith; sister, Martha Neeley; and son-in-law, Gene Manlet.
Friends will be received on Sunday, November 17, 2024, from 2-5 p.m. at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue. A funeral service will begin on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 209 Southwest Street, Bellevue. Burial will follow at Bellevue Cemetery.
