Charles Sabo Obituary

Charles Sabo, 95, of Bellevue passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at The Bellevue Hospital.  He was born April 19, 1925 in Bradner, Ohio the son of James and Josephine (Beri) Sabo.

Charlie graduated from Bradner High School in 1943.  Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during World War II in the Pacific Area until his honorable discharge in 1945.  On February 24, 1949 he married Virginia Monarchi at Immaculate Conception Church in Bellevue; She preceded him in death in 1991.

Mr. Sabo worked for the former National Plastics/ A. Schulman Inc. from 1955 until his retirement in 1995.  During his time working he served as Plant Manager from 1959 until 1981 and then Sales Representative from 1982-1995.

Throughout Charlie’s life he was an active member of the Bellevue Community and spearheaded a multitude of projects for the betterment of the city.  Charlie was a Charter Member of the Bellevue Rotary Club in 1964, along with helping begin the Club he served as President from 1966-1967and also received the Paul Harris Fellow award in 1985.  Charlie co-chaired the BAF Stadium Drive in 1966 which raised $150,000 in conjunction with The Bellevue Rotary Club and Bellevue Alumni Association.  He served on the Board of The Bellevue Hospital from 1968-1971 and served as Chairman of The Board from 1971-1972.  He served as Trustee of the Bellevue United Selective Fund for over 50 years beginning in 1968 as well as Co-Chairman in 1973-1975 and Chairman in 1975.  In 1973, Charlie served on the Mayors Committee for the City of Bellevue Rec. Planning Board which was instrumental in securing the current location of the Bellevue Rec. Center and Mill Pond.  He also served as the director of Mill-Lympic Pool from 1963-1973.   Charlie had two sport’s teams that he cherished: The Bellevue Redmen and The Ohio State Buckeyes, he not only cheered for both but supported both as a member of the Bellevue Redmen Boosters since 1966 as well as a member of The Ohio State University Presidents Club since 1980 and The Ohio State Scarlet and Gray Club since 1987.

Charlie was a member of Immaculate Conception Church where he served on the fundraising and finance committees over the years as well as the Bellevue Knights of Columbus where he served as Grand Knight in 1964.  He was also a member of Elks Lodge #1013, American Legion Post 46, Eagles Aerie 490, and the former Club Amer-Ital.

He is survived by his Five Children: Daniel (Angie) Sabo, Deborah (Bill) Myers, David (Ginny) Sabo, Dennis (Pam) Sabo, and Diane (Mike) Hevel; 9 Grandchildren; 6 Great Grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia Sabo; and second wife, Nancy Sworden.

At Charlie’s request, funeral services will be private.  Foos & Foos Funeral Service, Bellevue is in care of arrangements.
