Charles E. Bookmyer, 97, of Bellevue passed away Friday, January 16, 2026 at The Willows at Bellevue. He was born November 25, 1928 in Fremont the son of Charles A. and Elizabeth R. (Rettinger) Bookmyer.
Charles honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He later retired as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Bellevue. Music was a significant part of his life; he enjoyed creating it and played in various bands over the years. Additionally, he participated in the Bell Choir at First United Methodist Church, attending services there with his wife. When he was younger, Charles worked alongside his brother, Tom, as a pinsitter at the local bowling alley in Clyde.
He is survived by his son, Kirk Bookmyer of Hilliard, Ohio; brothers: Thomas Bookmyer of Clyde, Gerald Bookmyer of Richmond, TX, Richard Bookmyer of Carpinteria, CA, Lloyd Bookmyer of Muncie, IN; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie (Sturgeon); and sister, Miriam Bookmyer.
A funeral Mass will begin on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 231 E. Main Street, Bellevue with Military Honors to follow. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
