Charles “Charley” H. Baum, 73, of Bellevue, Ohio, passed away June 30, 2020, at Firelands Regional Medical Center surrounded by loved ones. Charley, born August 26, 1946 in Bellevue, Ohio, was the son of Leroy and Grace (King) Baum of Bellevue who preceded him in death.
Charley is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandra (Bailey) Baum, son Tim (Barbara) Baum of Bellevue, daughter Shannon (Norman) Van Ness of Gibsonburg, son Charles II (Diane) Baum of Knoxville, Tennessee, brother Jim (Evelyn) Baum of Castalia, and sister Ann (Daniel) Benton of Cincinnati. Also surviving are his Grandchildren Tim Baum II, Dustin (Taylor) Baum, Charlene Baum, Nolan (Amber) Baum, Brandon Baum, Dylan Baum and Nathan Baum. Charley was also the proud Great Grandfather of Corey Baum, Ava and Alivia Schoewe and Jamie Baum.
Charley graduated from Bellevue High School in 1964. After graduation, he worked at Whirlpool while also serving six years in the Ohio National Guard. Charley and Sandy represented State Farm Insurance in Bellevue for over 38 years before his retirement in 2013. He was recognized as a Top Performer for the company on multiple occasions and supported numerous local organizations and charities through his business. His Philanthropic efforts also included serving as Kiwanis President...and in the Bellevue Masonic Lodge, where he served as Master in 1983, and was a 32nd Degree, Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner. He was also a member and former Deacon of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the VFW. As President of the Library Board, he oversaw the fundraising campaign that renovated the library in 1987.
Charley, always up for fun and adventure, loved dancing and watching live music with his loving wife Sandy. They also enjoyed taking long drives and attending local car shows in his 1979 L-82, 4 speed, Top Flite Awarded Corvette. An avid golfer, he enjoyed league play at Twin Lakes and playing in local charity scrambles. Most of all, Charley simply loved being surrounded by people...be it for regular “card nights” with friends or large family gatherings for holidays and birthdays in his home.
Friends and Family will be received for visitation on Sunday, July 5th, from 2pm to 4pm at Foos & Foos Funeral Home, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue, OH. A Funeral Ceremony will commence at 4pm with VFW and Masonic Services included. A burial at York Chapel Cemetery will follow.
While masks will not be required for those attending, they are encouraged for those who wish to wear them. To that end, the family understands if some are not yet comfortable attending gatherings...so a larger, more open Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in 2020. Details will be formalized in the coming months.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be made to the Bellevue Masonic Lodge #273, (1108 Castalia St., Bellevue, OH, 44811) in Charley’s memory. Donations will be distributed among the lodge’s multiple charitable efforts.
