Cecil “Joe” Sawyer, Jr, age 79 of Clyde, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky. Joe was born February 19, 1941 in Ameagle, WV the son of the late Cecil Sawyer, Sr. and Helen (Griffin) Sawyer.
Joe was an Air Force veteran, who retired from May Flower Vehicles in Norwalk, Ohio, where he was a tool and die maker. He was a jack of all trades and the king of one-liners! Joe loved spending time with his family and friends and telling story after story. He enjoyed his best pal, his dog Buddy, woodworking, fishing with his buddies, watching NASCAR in sports. Joe was an amazing cook and he loved trying new recipes out. His love for old school country music and playing his guitar and banjo were one of his favorite past times, all while sitting out in his garage for hours upon end.
Joe is survived by his wife, Karen (Heisler) Sawyer of Clyde, whom he married April 21, 1961 in Willard; 5 daughters: Sheri Pero of Clyde, Melinda (Curtis) Larkins of Republic, Michele (James) Waterfield of Fremont, Susan (Paul) Nichols of Clyde, and Lori (Curtis) Rogers of Bellevue; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren plus baby Sawyer on the way; sister, Jean Stewart of Lakeland, FL; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dog, Buddy.
In addition to his parents, Joe is preceded in death by his great-grandson, Nathaniel Sowards, and sisters: Gloria Neal and Jenny Ann Pring.
Services for Joe will be held privately.
