Catherine Agnes McConnell, 89, of Bellevue passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at her family homestead. She was born January 21, 1934, in that home, the daughter of Alfred and Agnes (Hay) Miller.
Catherine began her love of teaching at Norwalk St. Paul while sharing her artistic ability. She was a homemaker but also drove school bus, helped on the farm, and taught CCD and PSR at St. Sebastian and St. Gaspar. She was an active member of St. Gaspar del Bufalo and the St. Anne study club and Altar Rosary Society. She enjoyed planning events and always cooked for an “army”. She served on the former St. Sebastian and St. Gaspar funeral dinner committees.
Catherine married Gus McConnell on August 8, 1953 at Immaculate Conception Church, Bellevue; He survives along with their 10 children: Terry (Pat) McConnell of Bellevue, Mary (Ed) Ross of Bellevue, Gregory (Sherry) McConnell of Republic, Suzie (George) Hintze of Fremont, Nancy (Ron) Thomas of Wooster, David (Cindy) McConnell of Bloomville, Theresa (Fred) Leber of Monroeville, Mark McConnell of Attica, Debbie (Scott Dresser) Havice of Monroeville, and Valerie (Mark) Bumb of Bellevue; 26 grandchildren; 59 great grandchildren; brothers, Paul (Debbie) Miller and Clayton (Marilyn) Miller; sisters: Bertha Eisenhauer, Rose (Leroy) Nelson, Ann (Jim) Mellein, Helen (Dale) Gasteier, Martha Turner, Bernie Stockmaster, and Rita (Frank) Smith.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers: Eugene Miller, Fr. Joe Miller, and Charles Miller; and many other in-laws.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 from 2-7 p.m. at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue where the Rosary will be recited at 1: 30 p.m. A funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at St. Gaspar del Bufalo, 16209 County Road 46, Bellevue, Ohio 44811. Burial will follow at St. Sebastian Cemetery.
